In a world of ever increasing pressure for organizations to adopt 3rd-party cloud-based knowledge graph services, we present the fundamental concepts behind Web 3.0 (The Semantic Web) and make the case for why Semantic Mediawiki (SMW) is still uniquely valuable as an essential part of an entirely open-source software stack that enables users to digitally transform their internal business processes into fully-electronic workflows that provide all the benefits and insights of a true Knowledge Graph system. All of the concepts and capabilities of SMW are presented in the context of their essential use in an “Operational” Knowledge Management System (KMS) being used at NASA Glenn Research Center’s (GRC) Armstrong Test Facility (ATF) in Sandusky, Ohio USA.
