Give feedback

TIB Hannover has updated and extended the existing Semantic Wikibase extension, that was initially developed by Professional.Wiki. The goal was not only to make the extension compatible with newer Mediawiki versions but also to extend the functionality and increase support of the Wikibase data model. This has led to the following new functionality:

  • Support of Wikibase EDTF (extended datetime format)
  • Support of Wikibase Qualifiers
  • Support of bidirectional data flow via Widgets and Forms
  • Connectivity to Mediawiki Categories

Wikibase and Semantic Mediawiki are separate extensions that weren't designed to be compatible. Thus, there are some tradeoffs in connectivity. We will provide insights into the development decisions and propose alternatives of the future development routes. The discussion aims to include community members into the decision process as well as open a forum about the general question if and under which circumstances an extension like SemanticWikibase is helpful and necessary.
