Wikidata: Semantic Wikipedia[edit]
A team of 12 is currently working on Wikidata at Wikimedia Deutschland. Their goal is to create the foundation for a knowledge base that can be accessed by the Wikipedias as well as 3rd parties. It will bring structured data to the Wikimedia projects and offer a community-maintained collection of facts and their sources to the world. One example: Wikidata contains the birthdate of a person of public interest associated with the person’s name. This can then be used in all Wikipedias (and outside of them) and only needs to be maintained in one place.
Denny Vrandečić will introduce the project, show the current status and discuss possibilities for collaboration between SMW and Wikidata.
